Several months later the breeder contacted us inquiring if we would be interested in selling Sugar Gliders in our market area since the trip to the Memphis / Tupelo market area was beyond where she desired to travel on weekends. We considered the offer as a mix to our current offerings and accepted the challenge. We are now selling our babies exclusively. As time bore on our accumulation of breeder stock grew and grew. Today we have expanded to having a sales representative in the southern half of Mississippi to relieve our "behind the wheel" time and spend more time caring for the breeders at home. Our Southern Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana Representative, Rick Madia, is a true animal lover like us. He has been breeding Chihuahua puppies for some time. When we first introduced him to the Sugar Glider, he was immediately hooked on the species. We have a daughter who is twenty-six and has been paralyzed for 10 years due to an accident caused by a drunk driver. With our needing to care for her in the home, our home based breeder business really fulfills our overall needs. I was a professional firefighter for 26 years and am retired but retirement does not mean doing nothing. With our mutual love for animals, we both enjoy not only the breeding and marketing of Sugar Gliders but also the interacting with our customers. Over 80% of our Sugar Glider customers keep in contact with us. At any given time we will be baby setting at least 3 to 5 animals for our customers who have to be away from home for extended periods. I can honestly say that this profession is well beyond the financial gain. The satisfactions we receive from providing a young child with the responsibility of caring for a living animal, or the companionship we provide an elderly home-bound person are such a reward. The young people who have learned responsibility and love for nature are probably the biggest reward. I can honestly say we have several young people out there that may very well one day choose a career in veterinarian medicine due to their exposure and caring for Sugar Gliders. As time moves on we hope to expand our services and business well beyond just breeding and marketing the species and needs. A new era has opened to us with the opening of our web site. As time moves on we hope to have one of the most informative and interesting sources on the internet for both Sugar Glider owners and prospective owners. We welcome questions and suggestions from both our customers as well as all Sugar Glider owners in an attempt to better inform all owners and to protect the babies. Today the State of Mississippi Rebel Glider Ranch is the largest and premiere USDA breeder of Sugar Gliders in the State of Mississippi.
